Ganduje hails NAHCON leadership for Hajj savings program and other initiatives

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abdullahi Umar Ganduje on Wednesday hailed the leadership of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) led by Alhaji Zikrullah Kunle Hassan, for its Hajj Savings Scheme (HSS) and d Other Initiatives of the Current Hajj Council. body.

Governor Ganduje praised the leadership of NAHCON when he paid a courtesy visit to the commission’s Hajj House headquarters in Abuja.

According to the governor, the Hajj Savings Scheme, an initiative designed by NAHCON to help low-income people and others pay incrementally for the chance to perform Hajj.

He said Kano State embraced the program early on, saying that was why an enabling environment was created for its success in the state.

Ganduje, who said he was at the Hajj house to make a request and exchange pleasantries, thanked NAHCON for the functional Hajj clinic built in Kano, which the state government helped furnish.

He also appreciated the excellent relationship his government has with NAHCON as well as between NAHCON and other state governments.

The Governor, however, reminded NAHCON Chairman and CEO Alhaji Hassan that construction works on the hotel being built at the Hajj camp in Kano have come to a halt.

Ganduje said that this development could lead to additional costs due to the constantly rising prices of building materials and called for urgent action on this.


The governor then requested additional slots for his state for this year’s Hajj if, by any chance, there were slots available.

In response, Hassan welcomed the governor to the Hajj house, describing Ganduje’s visit as historic.

NAHCON’s CEO claimed the governor was the biggest supporter of the Hajj savings plan and described Ganduje as receptive to NAHCON’s leadership.

According to the boss of NAHCON, Kano State was the first state where the public-private partnership (PPP) program of the commission got off to a successful start and expressed his gratitude to the governor for that.

Alhaji Hassan also described Kano as important to NAHCON, promising to help Kano with his demands out of respect for the state.

Speaking on the shutdown of the hotel building, Hassan blamed financial constraints for the shutdown.

During his visit to NAHCON, Governor Ganduje was accompanied by the Executive Secretary of the Kano State Pilgrim Welfare Council, Alhaji Muhammad Abba Dambatta; the Permanent Secretary, Protocol Directorate, Alhaji Idris Abdullahi Dawakin Tofa and the Liaison Officer, Kano State Government Headquarters, Abuja, S. AbdulHadi.

The governor was received by the three permanent commissioners of NAHCON and the directors of the commission.
