Houlton Bangor Savings Bank gets a makeover

After several months of renovations, the lobby of the Bangor Savings Bank in Houlton is now complete.

HOULTON, Maine – After several months of renovations, the lobby of the Bangor Savings Bank in Houlton is now complete.

The completely renovated new interior features an all-new floor design aimed at increasing efficiency and customer satisfaction, bank officials said.

Construction began in the fall of 2021 and was completed in January, with the aim of impacting customers as little as possible, according to Nicholas Hallowell, branch manager.

“The recently updated interior space provides customers with a more contemporary banking environment, including a refresh of the teller area, lobby and office areas, to allow us to better serve our customers,” Hallowell said. “In addition, the renovation was approached in an environmentally friendly manner, to include new energy efficient windows, LED lighting and a new highly efficient cold weather heat pump HVAC system.”

The construction marks the first major interior remodeling of the Houlton branch under the Bangor Savings Bank. The building, located at the corner of Court and Military streets, was built by the Houlton Trust Company in 1978.

Renovation work was carried out on the property before Bangor Savings Bank purchased the branch from Fleet Bank in 1998.

“The renovation of the Houlton branch is one of many projects planned for the bank in 2022 and demonstrates our continued commitment to communities,” Hallowell said. “We felt it was important to invest more in this community by renovating and upgrading the branch to better support and serve our customers.”

The redesigned lobby includes an area where guests can grab freshly brewed coffee or water from a miniature refrigerator. Plenty of seating is available for those who need a place to sit.

“Our Houlton team is extremely pleased with the branch refurbishment as we now have a brighter, more welcoming and modern environment,” he said. “The redesign of the lobby and counter area provides us with a more efficient and pleasant workspace, allowing us to better serve our customers and our community. I am very proud to work on this BSB site with our team where we can welcome our customers in this beautiful space.

One of the most striking features of the new lobby is a massive mural in the main entrance featuring a photograph of Houlton’s Gateway Crossing Bridge by local photographer Christopher Mills. Several other works of art by local artists are also featured and have been selected by the bank’s marketing team for our customers and community to enjoy.

“The Walkway Bridge mural is an example of local artwork that will draw attention to the good work of Bridge to Hope, a local nonprofit whose mission is to bring hope to all people fighting cancer,” Hallowell said.
